Pittsburgh Field Club Golf Course Review

The Pittsburgh Field Club Golf Course is located on a beautiful piece of real estate in the near vicinity of Oakmont, across the Allegheny River and it was originally designed by architect Alexander Findlay more than one hundred years ago, in 1915. The layout is a quintessential Eastern golf-design with relatively small and undulating greens and lots of elevation changes. The terrain upon which the Pittsburgh Field Club Golf Course was built is relatively hilly, yet only a couple of holes play uphill and theres an abundance of confidence inspiring downhill shots, especially off the 1st tee. Despite the fact that youre in Pittsburgh, this golf course doesnt play nor feels very hilly, and truth be told, there are numerous birdie holes and if youre taking it for granted, youll end up eaten alive by this baby if youre hitting it sideways.

The Pittsburgh Field features 6611 yards from its longest tees for a 71 par and it has a course rating of 72,9 and a slope rating of 134. Metrics aside, playing the Pittsburgh Field will make for a once in a life time experience, as the golf course offers its visitors terrific views and its challenging for golfers at every skill level, boasting its impeccably maintained fairways and greens. During its long and tumultuous history, the Pittsburgh Field Club Golf Course suffered lots of renovation jobs and many famous architects put their signature upon its layout, names like Donald Ross and Robert Trent Jones Sr., or A.W. Tillinghast. Keep in mind that what youll be dealing with here is a private resort, available for its members and their guests only, but if youre lucky enough to get a chance to play it, dont hesitate, I promise you wont regret it. Every hole is unique and has its own character and the course gets better and better every time you visit.
