The Golf Club at Harbor Shores Course Review

The Harbor Shores was built and designed in 2010 and it wears the signature of the famous golf architect Jack Nicklaus, making for one of his most recent works. After taking it for a spin, i.e. playing a few rounds of this baby, I must tell you the truth: despite being strikingly beautiful, sitting on an amazing piece of real estate, visually stunning, with an outstanding practice area, an impeccable staff and all that, the golf course itself is a monster. To begin with, despite being in its infancy stages, the Harbor Shores already harbored several Senior PGA tournaments. That translates into being one of the most bizarre and difficult tracks Ive ever played. There are deep fairways bunkers basically everywhere, thick fescue and water hazards that are very difficult to see from the tee boxes, sloped greens which are strangely undulating, being virtually unputtable. Are you starting to get the picture, right? I am a big fan of Jack Nicklaus design, but with the Harbor Shores it looks like he was asked to create a golf course only a hardcore golfer would enjoy and he delivered.

This is a golf course which can be described as pro tour caliber conditions, with treacherous and massive green complexes that make for a significant challenge even for low handicappers. Everything has a rugged feel yet the variety is awesome, especially in par 4s and par 5s, which boast their devilish sand traps which engulf the golf course at every turn. The layout is very awkward as it winds between holes that take you over busy roads. Some of the Harbor Shoress greens (especially no. 10) are so outrageous that they seem to have been designed for a masochist. Bottom line, if you want to play the most difficult golf course in your life, one of the most challenging out there, a typical yet born again hard Nicklaus signature course, the Harbor Shores is very easy to recommend.
