The Ford Plantation Golf Course Review

The Ford Plantation Golf Course is a private golf club available for members and their guests only and it was designed by multiple architects, i.e. P.B. Dye, Pete Dye and Tim Liddy. The 18-hole course is located at the Ford Plantation Facility in Richmond Hill, Georgia, and it boasts its 7408 yards of golf from the longest tees for a 72 par. The Ford Plantation Golf Course was opened for players in 2014, after it suffered major overhauls, the first actually in its thirty years of serving the Savannah community. The golf course was re-designed and improved, now featuring wider bunkers and fairways, together with a new irrigation system and improved drainage. Truth be told, it was about time. The Ford Plantation Golf Course was obviously named after the legendary auto magnate, who was the initial owner of the 1800 acres of real estate and it consists mainly of two areas: the front line is routed across two hundred and fifty acres of beautiful water lakes, being a tree lined/parkland styled course, while the back features a linksy, more open design, as it crosses the wetlands.

When the Ford Plantation Golf Course was initially built, its main purpose was to offer its members the opportunity to enjoy a great time there, regardless of their skill level. And what Dye managed to re-create in 2014 (the large scale re-design/restoration job) achieved just that: having fun while playing a great game and facing challenges while enjoying the beauty of the course and the awesome views provided by the areas lush vegetation and rich wildlife. And thats not just my opinion either. For example, the Ford Plantation Golf Course was called one of the best new golf courses in America by Golf Magazine and Golf Digest, while Golfweek ranked it in its top 100 best residential courses in 2016. Bottom line, let me remind you that playable doesnt mean just easy, when referring to the Ford Plantation Golf Course, it means having a great time and lots of fun.

The Ford Plantation Golf Club is known as one of the top 7 safe-havens in the United States, or at least thats what the folks from the Town and Country magazine named this 1800 acres private golfing resort, which sits majestically on the shores of the Ogeechee River. The golf course at Ford Plantation Golf Club was designed by the world-renowned architect Pete Dye and it plays 7400 yards from the tips, making for a course thats fun to play regardless of your skill level.

If your idea of fun is a hugely playable yet a challenging round of golf, you must pay a visit to the Ford Plantation at least once in your lifetime. Pete Dyes design makes for two for the price of one so to speak, as the golf course at the Ford Plantation Golf Club its more like 2 golf courses in 1. The front-nine design is a parkland course, featuring lots of doglegs as it spreads along the oaks covered in spanish moss and the lakes of Savannah. Then, when you play the back-nine, youll discover a links style golf course, which is basically the antithesis of the other. I mean, the back nine has no trees and despite the fact that its obviously a Pete Dye design, its as unique as it gets. Unlike the architects more devious designs, the Ford Plantation golf course is fairly playable, regardless of your skill level, but that doesnt mean that the course is easy. Playing the Ford Plantation youll discover tricky pin placements, strategically placed bunkers and difficult approach shots, that will keep you busy and theyll interfere with you getting distracted by the panoramic vistas. Every hole is progressively more difficult from tee to the green, the fairways are generous and basically everything slopes towards the middle. For better players, the main challenges will be on those approach shots, as they really bring the difficulty factor into play. The Ford Plantation is a golf course where signature holes are the norm, yet number 17 is definitely the best, being the most picturesque and also the most difficult to play.
