Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club Course Review
The Rancho Santa Fe is one of the oldest and most respected golf clubs in California and its history goes way back to 1929. The golf course wears the design of famous architect Max Behr (in 1929 he was a big deal folks) and it features a classic layout which was used for hosting some of the most important events from every era. The Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club hosted the first 6 Bing Crosby Pro-Am tournaments, also known as the Clambake, and in the 21st century it was home for the 2006 United States USGA Junior Amateur championship together with 2011s California State Amateur championship. After all these years, the golf course at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club still retains that classic, undeniable sensation of history, boasting its large and impeccably conditioned fairways, framed by ninety year old eucalyptus trees.
The architects philosophy was to design a great golf course which blends seamlessly with the natural contours of the property, with the holes winding up and down, crossing and then re-crossing a long barranca, with an almost maniacal attention to detail and everything focused on the purest golfing experience possible. Everything at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club was created as a great test of golf and visitors of every skill level will enjoy this playable golf course, which is both memorable and challenging, being a place like no other, as unique as they come. Also its worth noticing that Max Behrs philosophy when designing this true gem of a golf course was to use the natural terrain, the trees, hazards and also the bunkers for defending the green, as opposed to penalizing errors of skill. The architect was not a believer in using the rough, hence the layout has a sense of balance that can be perceived all around the golf course.
