Riviera Country Club Golf Course Review
The golf course at Riviera Country Club is one of those places which can be best described using poetry, something along the lines of a legendary spot on the US golf landscape. Truth be told, there are not many golf courses in America like the Riviera Country Club, and I am not talking about subjective things like design. For example, how many golf courses in the US have had the privilege to be the host for 2 PGA Championships, one US Open and a US Senior Open, not to mention being the perennial host of the PGA Tours Northern Trust Open? Well, not so many, you must admit it. The golf course at Riviera Country Club wears the design signature of famous architect George Thomas and its a place where many golf legends and celebrities tasted victory while playing here, the likes of Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Nick Faldo, Douglas Fairbanks, Dean Martin or Charlie Chaplin.
It is said that Ben Hogan, the golf player who won his first US Open at Riviera Country Club in 1948 described this place as a truly magnificent place and a wonderful golf course, and his feelings were echoed by all the golfers who had the opportunity and privilege to play here all these years. Indeed, the Riviera Country Club combines a definite Hollywood aura with Hogans heroic design and layout, making for this course to be a national golf treasure. To tell you the truth, it would be hard for anybody to find 127 acres of land more fascinating than South Californias Riviera Country Club, a place which boasts its compelling architecture, a celebrity heritage and a rich tournament lore, making for an authentic national treasure if there ever was one. The golf course was sculpted using the architects magic out of a dry river-bed and George Thomass brilliant design put together yawning hazards, the Rivieras spongy fairways and the towering eucalyptus groves into something resembling a sacred ground for players everywhere in the world.
