Widen Your Stance When Battling the Wind, Golf (Video) - by Pete Styles
Widen Your Stance When Battling the Wind, Golf (Video) - by Pete Styles

If you have ever gone for a walk on a windy day and sudden gust of wind just kind of caught you off balance one of the first things you would do almost instinctively quite naturally because it made you just wide in your stance a little bit just go give you a little bit more of a platform to stand on that you can actually use the same approach when you are playing golf. If you are feeling a bit unbalanced and bit unstable either on uneven lie or particularly on the windy day, taking a wider stance would seems quite a natural thing to do anything where you are too narrow and then you are trying to perform this nice big turning motion you are going to be unbalanced. So plant your feet a little bit wider apart than normal, maybe an inch an extra inch on each side per foot just go give you that extra sort of solid grounded position.

I should encourage you now that you can still make the same normal flowing golf swing but holding your balance a little bit extra at the end of your swing, if you go too wide with your stance you will feel like you end up swing a little bit, so remember a normal width stance would be the width of your shoulders, and extra wide stance in the wind maybe two inches or four inches wider at most then take your stance to that width and then try and hit some nice solid shots from here in the wind, that I should just encourage you to stay balanced keep the ball flight down and really cement a good solid contact on the golf ball.
