A one arm putting drill is a fantastic drill to practice if you want to improve your putting stroke. It will really help you get a feel for the putter in your hands for the weight of the putter head it will get you to feel the swing and the tempo that you can then start to replicate, but both hands are back on the club and it will also help you to keep the wrist angle the same during the putting stroke when you’re using the one hand you won’t manipulate the putter so much with your wrist and your hands. So it’s fantastic to improve your putting stroke

Okay so here’s what we’re going to do, we’re going to set up to the putt as we normally would, so make sure the feet and shoulder width apart you’ve got a good balance, the ball center of the feet and the eyes are over the ball or just from the inside of it. And then nice long with the hands to keep the arms relaxed. Now work on taking the hand closest to the hole of the putter and either place it in your left hand pocket if you’re a right handed golfer or behind your left thigh. So keep that hand out of the way. What we want to do now is work on just maintaining the wrist angle with the right wrist if you’re a right handed golfer and as you swing back maintaining that wrist angle and maintaining the wrist angle as you swing through. So it will stop you manipulating the putter head by using your wrist too much. The other thing you want to do is actually swing back, is when you start to move back towards the ball is just feel the palm and the pat in your palm where the palm is contacting the hand roll, just starts to feel a little bit of pressure and as you feel the lag in the putter. So swing back and then the hands going to start to move the putter towards the ball you’ll feel the pressure of the handle against your palm and you’ll really get a nice lag in the putter and it will maintain that wrist angle for you. So set yourself up, the hand closest to the hole in your pocket and then hit the putt maintaining the same wrist angle all the way through and that’s a really good drill to help you maintain that wrist angle, feel the weight of the putter, feel the rhythm and the tempo, you won’t be fighting with the putter with one hand down here with it as a unit and you’ll hole a lot more putts.
