What is a Three Quarters golf shot? Now before we actually discuss what a three quarters golf shot is, we need to actually define what a full shot is and a half shot is. Now a full shot is when especially I mean there are lots different indicators you can use but probably the easiest one to use is actually your left arm when you’re swinging. So a full shot is when the club travels back, the shoulders turn and then the left arm points pretty much straight up at the sky at the top of the back swing. So it’s in this position here. Now that can be considered a full backswing once the arm reaches that position. Now a half back swing is when that left arm reaches a point where it’s parallel to the ground. This can be considered a half swing and you might have guessed it the three quarter swing slots directly in between the two. So we’ve got a half swing, a three quarter swing and a full swing.

Now that’s the easiest way to actually get the differences in distance. And that’s what a three quarter swing and a half swing and a full swing, that’s what they’re all designed to do just produce different types of shots. Now a three quarter swing is where they can also be adapted to play a better punch shot and it will get a little bit more control and actually take a little bit of distance away if you’re in between clubs. Now that’s what a three quarter shot is. Now what a lot of people actually make the mistake of is they swing three quarters back but then to actually try and control distance you need to swing to a position three quarters through as well. If you swing three quarters back and then just have a full swing through the effect will be negated and it won’t be a true three quarter swing shot. So the easiest way to check it is swing in back to this point here so a three quarters back swing into impact but then finishing with the right arm in a corresponding position. So that’s a full swing with the right arm, a three quarter swing with the right arm, and a half swing with the right arm. So a two or three quarter shot will be to there to there. And that’s the easiest way to check. You just use your arms as guides and practicing those little positions on the range that will definitely improve how to control your three quarter shot. Then mix it in with some half swings and full swings as well and you’ll get a sense of where your arm should be in relation to the half swing and three quarter swing and the full swing as well. And it will help you control your distance a hell of a lot better on the course.
