Roberto De Vicenzo is one of the best players ever to come out of South America, winning 230 tournaments worldwide including the famous victory the 1967 Open Championship. Now he had a unique set up and a unique swing in many respects, but he managed to have one thing which you can take into your game which is a fantastic hip action after becoming very hunched over the ball at address. Now the way Roberto used to address the ball is getting very hunched over it with quite a kind of arched spine almost with the club quite close to the body. And to actually get out of this position that he almost found himself in at impact, the hips cleared wonderfully well, almost standing up a little bit out of impact, clearing his left side fantastically well and absolutely curing the shot, it was a unique swing and individual swing, but one he used to compete and play at the highest level all around the world. So although a kind of hunched posture over the ball isn’t recommended, the action of getting the left hip there, clearing and turning it out of the way certainly is. So if you want to mimic that hip action, there are certainly worse ones you can choose to follow. So I’ll try while I’m being slightly hunched as well, getting the hip moving left and then clearing around to the side, and if you can get it grooved, if you can get it moving, then you will hit some very pure and very successful shots.
