What is the perfect set up to hit a long straight drives? When you’re stood on the tee and you want to find a fairway with a long straight drive, it can often seem like almost an impossible task, especially if you’re not hitting the ball great. But if you get your set up bang on, you increase the possibilities of getting that ball onto the fairway. It’s not very often that you can set up with a bad set up, with bad alignment, with bad posture, and actually find the ball on the fairway with the second shot. You need to make sure your set up is precise; you need to make sure it's accurate. Now, the first thing you need to do with a drive is make sure your alignment is absolutely spot-on. You’ll have your target line where the ball is actually positioned, but you want your feet, your knees, your hips and your shoulders to all, be parallel to that line. You don’t want the shoulders to be opening, you don’t want the stance to be closed or open, you want everything to be sat parallel to that target line.

If you get everything set parallel that means the swing is able to operate on that slightly inside to square to inside path swinging in front of the body. Now as long as you kind of get that alignment with the body, your body will be aligned correctly. To get the correct target line, you need to go through a little bit of a routine. Very, very simply pick out the target which you wish, could be the middle of the fairway, or a target just after the fairway. So, pick out your target line, trace it back to where you want to place the ball, pick out an intermediate target which falls on that line, and then align the markings on your ball to point at the intermediate target. From there, you can get the alignment aid on the top of the club, lined up with the ball, lined up with the intermediate target, and lined up with the target line, from there, set that body parallel to that line. And that is you setup in a perfect setup. The only real alteration, the only real thing you need to pay attention to is, make sure that ball is positioned just inside the left heel. From here, you can stay behind the ball and really swing through. And you get everything working in the order; you can hit some lovely, straight, long golf shots. Make sure you go through that setup, be accurate with it, be precise with it, and hopefully you’ll be able to make a few better tee shots.
