What is the best impact position for straight golf drives? Now assuming your back swing and the initial parts of your down swing has been correct, and please refer to all the videos on the website and make sure that you’re getting in these correct positions. There are a number of different checkpoints you can use at the point of impact to make sure you’re going to be hitting accurate, consistent, and long drives. Now with a nice full back swing, a nice wide turn, and nicely on plane, you need to mirror a lot of the positions that you’ve done on the back swing coming down into impact, but the point of impact these are the positions that you need to see. The hips need to be rotating towards the target, either the right heel lifting up or rolling slightly onto the instep. What a lot of people find is if the heel comes up the body actually moves towards the ball as well, however if you have enough flexibility to keep the hips back then by all means let that heel come up, otherwise let it roll onto the instep. And you can see that’s created that turn in the hips which is delivering a lot of power into the shot, but you can also see although the hips have opened and are rotating towards the target my shoulders are in a square position as they were at address.

Now this creates the actual kind of options to get this club into a square position, if my shoulders were open along with my hips I’d be moving on a slightly out to in swing path. So when my shoulder’s square to my target line, I can actually come on a slightly inside path and deliver that club face square. Also in this position my body weight although it is leaning slightly behind the ball so I can swing the ball off the tee, my weight is moving forward and from here I can turn and rotate and release fully through the shot. Now it’s very, very difficult in isolation to actually stop at impact because you’re going to be moving so fast. So to check these positions you will need the aid of a camera, a high speed video camera to actually capture the point of impact. You can also do little drills where you take away and you stop there and you pause and you check all the different positions, but those are the key impact positions you need to see if you want to be hitting straight golf shots. If you can get them in isolation and you can create those factors when you hit the ball, it’s going to make sure that those shots are a lot straighter a lot more accurate, but also it will give you an extra pump of power to get that ball travelling down the fairway.
