Possibly an underrated part of a golf set up position is going to be there shoulder position. We talk about shoulder position in terms of our target line in relation to been open or closed and we set up to the golf ball quite often with thinking about the alignment of our feet such aligning our feet to point towards the target. in the distance and everybody gets this bit quite rightly lay a club down and check up on that but what about if I stood there with my feet ninety lined up but my shoulders in an awkward position this would be a very open position but have the shoulders open if they're aiming to the left of the intended target. How about if I stood up to the ball again my feet are pretty good but my shoulders are wrong this way this is what we class as a closed position so for the right handed golfer having the shoulder to the right closed having the shoulders to the left is open to having the shoulders in those positions can have some pretty detrimental effects on how we're actually going to swing the club.

For example if your shoulders are one way generally speaking the club will go that way in terms of its path line so setting up to the ball feet square yes but the shoulders are open this way they're aiming to the left. As I swing the club back the club is going to go that way just inherently it's going to go that way I would have to fight really hard to try and get it to come back inside having the shoulders one way the club goes one way the club can come back across my body this way and that's going to cause me to pull off like the golf ball Likewise if my shoulders were the other way my shoulders were close together the club would come too much on the inside head out too much to the outside could cause me to push draw or hook the golf ball. So having shoulder alignment similar to your knees your hips and your show and your total line is fundamentally important so we want to have the shoulders lined up nicely with the body to be nice and square and not have too much twist. Easiest way for you to check this would be to get yourself square to target put a club down on your toes make sure about pointing at target and then hold this club across the front of your shoulders close one eye and look down the handle and make sure the handle there is pointing at target this would be open remember and this would be closed and that will have an effect on the path of your swing. So if you're struggling for accurate golf shots check your shoulder alignment and make sure it's straight towards your target.
