Any improvement that we make to a golf swing, we really want to make sure that we don’t have to re-visit that same improvement time and time again. We want to make that improvement once and make it stick. So we talk about keeping our golf swing on track.

Now we want to make this flat swing disappear, we want to get it back up onto a nice line, nice plain but we also don’t want to either go back to that bad habit straight away again or go too far over the other way. So one of the first things I’d encourage you to do is check with a video camera or a mirror, check the plain of your golf swing cut a regular basis. Take the camera down the line as we have it there, knock a couple of shots away and have a look at the angle of the club during the up and down stroke. Make sure it’s not too flat like we’ve just discussed, make sure it is not too steep also and hopefully by doing that you will see that change that we have just made ingrained in to your swing and then stay ingrained. We don’t want to be one week working on a steep, one week working on the flat golf swing, we just want it up and down on line as maintenance free as possible. So you are not wasting your time changing and re-changing. Another really good way of making sure that you are not getting back to a flat golf swing is particularly when you have got your irons, focus on hitting down on the ball, make sure that you are a good divot taker, that you are taking the ball and then the turf. Golfers that tend to find that they have got this feeling of lifting and helping and scooping the ball in to the air, will generally feel like they want to get flatter, more under it, more under the golf ball and help the ball up in to the air and that is not really where we want to be. We want to be the golfer particularly with their irons, a little steeper hitting down ball and turf, so with your irons focused on the concept that you should be hitting down, that should avoid getting your swing back in to that flat position again. So hit down with your irons to keep a steep swing, video your swing every now and then to make sure you are not too flat, not too steep but perfectly bang on playing.
