How To Make Decisions Around Inconsistent Golf Shots (Video) - by Peter Finch

Let's have a look at how you can actually make decisions based around inconsistent golf fields. Now, that may seem quite a strange concern, because if you're hitting inconsistent golf shots, the results -- as a result, are going to be more inconsistent. However, what you can do is you can play the percent ticket. It would be lovely if could go out onto a golf course and say, "You know what, I'm kind of hitting a slice. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to settle, and I'm going to hit a draw and hopefully that will work". In reality, if you've not done the work on the driving range, if you've not done the work within the swing to change your technique; you're going to go out on to the course, and you will hit that slice. And if you're ready and you've done a middle, or gone the right hand side to try and draw it back in, chances are the results are going to be pretty catastrophic. So what I'm saying is don't try and improve your technique -- what I'm saying is, don't not try and improve your technique; you need to do that, but that's on the range, that's on the practice ground.

On the course, play the percentages. If you know that eight of 10 drivers you're going to slice, aim down the left hand side of the fairway. If you know that with your eyeing shots, eight out of 10 shots, you're going to hit a 20 yard hole; aim the right hand side of the greens. If you hit a good shot, it's going to be on the right side of the green. If you hit a bad shot, it's going to be on the left side of the green. If you hit a good shot, that normal kind of hook that you hit is going to end up around the centre. Using the inconsistencies in your game to actually get around the course, is not a wrong thing to do and is not a terrible thing to do. Don't think like you're not a good player if you use your inconsistencies to score well. But it's important that you identify what they are, you know what they are, you know the limitations of them, and you know the amount of success that you have using them. It is important, and you can certainly get around the course that way. So if you do have an inconsistent swinging, and you do have inconsistence within your game; carry on, have a go and try and play with them. But, also get to the driving range and try and improve.
