One of the major issues of playing the ball from this lie is purely about the strike, the fact that from this position a lot of golfers would hit the ground before the golf ball hitting a fat shot.
As we have discussed in the previous video, one of the major points we are going to use to counter that issue is gripping down on the golf club, not holding this section should alleviate the problem of hitting the ball fat to a certain degree. Other areas that we could also consider to stop that fat shot is maintaining a good posture position from a good address position, we want to make sure the posture is maintained at the right level throughout the swing. We want to particularly avoid standing up which could cause a top shot or countering that as falling forwards and digging down and taking too much of a heavy strike and heavy contact on the ball. So maintaining super balance, really good posture should help us get to the ball at the right level not too high, not too low.
One last thing we got to make sure we are doing here to avoid the fat shot is to keep turning through the ball, we’ll often see golfers in this position because they feel a bit uneven, little bit unbalanced and they are not necessarily trying to hit the ball as hard as possible, is to get a bit static in the lower half, the legs and the hips don’t move as well. When your legs and your hips don’t move as well, your body weight stays back and you end up getting a bit heavy again. So we want to make sure we are gripping down, maintaining posture and then turning through the ball with the full finish, belt buckle turning, hips and legs driving, striking ball and then turf.
If you can avoid hitting fat shots when the ball is above your feet, you are well on your way to hitting better golf shots from this awkward lie.
