This first chipping drill and exercise is a thing that we call spot chipping and this is a great thing for you to practice if you don't always have an entirely perfect chipping surface at your disposal bit at the driving range of the golf club where you practice. Imagine you're in a situation maybe even in the back garden where you've got a nice little hitting surface but you don't have a perfectly mown green but you still want to practice your chipping.
