    Charles Henry Beck, known as Chip, was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. While at the University of Georgia he was three times All-American. After turning professional in 1978, Beck went on to achieve several wins, and runner-up positions, on the PGA Tour. In 1993 Beck was runner-up at the Masters Tournament; he also tied for second place at the US Open Championships, in both 1986 and 1989. As well as personal success, Beck played for his country, participating as a member of the US Ryder Cup team in 1989, 1991 and 1993.

    After missing forty six consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour, between 1997 and 1998, Beck left the PGA Tour for good and began a career selling insurance. He has however, has some success since, playing on the Champions Tour.

    As of the end of 2014, Beck had achieved four wins on the PGA Tour, amassing prize money of $6,205,730.
