Chipping Uphill Lie Tips by PGA Teaching Pro Ged Walters

Chipping from an uphill lie. It's a difficult one, but it really shouldn't be the reason it shouldn't be is because you've got a natural launch angle to launch the ball up into the air. Which means it can be really easy to flight the ball, land it, softly, and just let it gently release towards your target. There's a couple of keys that we need to put in place first, and also we need to make sure we select the right club.

Because you've got that natural launch angle. You don't need your most lofted club you can take a little bit of loft down and still flight at the same simply because of the angle the ball is going to go up in the air. If you look here, I've got quite an up slope here. So from this point here, I wouldn't need to play say my 58 degree wedge. I'm going to go a couple of clubs down and play my gap wedge 50 degrees. It's only a relatively short shot over here to the white flag, and I'm on a little bit of a slope as well, but this slope here is going to help uphill flight just let it release nicely.
