Putting Lead and Trail Hand Lesson by PGA Pro Tom Stickney Tom Stickney - A Top 100 Golf Teacher Tom Stickney – A Top 100 Golf Teacher

Hi I'm Tom Stickney and today in putting I want to talk to you about the relationships between the lead hand and face the trail hand and the loft. This is what a lot of people don't understand if you're having trouble controlling the starting direction of the golf ball it's because lead hand is bouncing around. We know the face angle at impact accounts for 83 percent of all errors so if you're coming in here and you're flicking at it and doing whatever over rolling your lead wrist it's going to be very hard to start the ball on the correct line.

So what I would suggest you do is work on practicing learning how to control your forward wrist and the club face getting that ball to start end over end getting it to go where we want. Now the trail hand has a certain amount of bend in the trail wrist that controls loft in the putter if my trail wrist stays constant the loft of the putter stays constant. If I straighten out or flick my wrists all the sudden there is loft added to the blade so we will not be able to control our speed. So if you're having speed issues work on practicing with one hand finishing with that right hand and or trail hand in the right position when you put both hands on the golf club remember you're going to either be a left arm puller or a right arm pusher you can be either one do that I promise you will do better.
