So long irons have become less popular these days obviously with the invention of hybrids, and rescue clubs, and so on. They are the center of gravity on those make them a lot easier, but if you'd like to master your long irons is really important you get some key things correct. Obviously the stance is a little wider because we're using a longer club, but the ball positions important to that ball position wants to be towards the front foot or just marginally back. Why because that's what we want to hit it with a quite levelish blow. Now unlike the other irons, mid irons we're hitting down on the golf ball with a bit more shuffling that allows us to compress the ball and almost take a divot. With a long iron you know you're not trying to take as big a divot that you are almost trying to brush it off a bit like a fairway wood. You're trying to scrape it so noticed when I address the golf ball that the shaft is neutral marginally ahead but you're not trying to get your hands way ahead of the golf ball. Cause if you do you're going to destroy all that loft and this club is only made with 18 20 degrees or so so you want the benefit of that loft not destroying it, so let it sit.

Now the other key thing is you know this club is meant to go further but that doesn't mean you have to swing more violently move off balance your head in your body is moving around that's going to make that low point where the bottom of the arc occurs erratic. So if anything you've got to be much much more disciplined with the clubs both in your set up and then when you make you swing you must make sure your swing is smoother and more balanced. That's the key because you want to get the sweet spot you want to find the sweet spot of the club and let the club do some of the work for you so don't fall into the trap of trying to hit these harder. Remember you've got a longer lever in your hands with less loft. So physics is going to do the work for you. So the biggest trick is to swing smoother from the correct setup make sure you find the center of the club the sweet spot if you do that you can have a whole of a lot more consistency with the a longer Irons. So I give this one a little go so ball slightly further forward I'm thinking of a sweeping I am going to really focus on finishing balanced, and when I finish balanced I think that long and straight to let the club do the work. Give it a try I know that's going to help you with your long irons.
