Why Is It Important To Hit My Drive On To The Golf Fairway (Video) - by Peter Finch

Why is it important to hit my drive onto the golf fairway? Now when you’re stood on the tee box and you have a fairway to aim at, that should always be your target. Very specifically when you hit your dive onto the fairway you give yourself the best chance of having a good lie and having the most control over your second shot either onto the green on a par 4, or kind of down the fairway, or onto the green on a par 5. The fairway is always the best place to play from. You can be off line, you can go in the semi-rough, and you can go in the rough, and you can find quite a nice lie. However, you’re bringing in more elements and more chances to also find a bad lie, 99% of the time when you hit onto a fairway unless you finally divot or you’re unlucky in some other way; you’re going to be finding a nice lie so you can play a good second shot.

So when you’re stood on the tee and you’re focused on that fairway, make sure that your shot tries to land there. Don’t feel that "Oh well I can hit it slightly offline and I can get away with it." Really focus your attention on that fairway and commit to hitting it there, because it will give the most advantages when you get down there, and you come to play your second shot.
