There are also benefits that a sweeping motion can give throughout the whole golfing technique lexicon, but with short game shots, sweeping motions can be used very effectively to increase the amounts of backspin that you initially have and to increase the amount of feel and touch that you have around the grins. Well the best examples of this in the morning game is Jason Day, he uses a very shallow angle of attack with his cheek shells. He will only use this however when the iron is good. If the iron is poor a descending angle of attack will be of benefit, but if the iron is good, then a shallow angle of attack can give many benefits. Now first of all, let’s understand what actually happens when you use a shallow angle of attack. Now the sand wedge or the gap wedge or any kind of real wedges that you have, will have a built-in amount of bounce single. Now that is the difference in the amount of angle between the bottom edge and the leading edge.

The bottom edge will always be the lower than the leading edge and this is because on the angle of attack which is steep, the actual leading entry will dig into the ground and then the lower bottom of the club, the sole, the bottom of the sole actually help guide that club back and out the ground. Now when you are using a shallow angle of attack or a sweeping motion, you engage to that bounce with a tough a little bit more. So you don’t quite dig in and you use it to help glide the club through the point of impact. Now to do this and to actually use this in a technique, you can use a very similar set up that you normally use within a chipping technique, so the ball position go out central that a little bit of weight on the front foot, but rather than just pressing the hands ahead of the ball, actually keep them quite a level, actually get the shaft pointing up a little bit more towards the bulb or core and then from there raveling handing in lots of wrist changes the backswing. Take the club away and don’t use much wristing jaw. Again this will help keep the angle of attack very shallow through the ball. And if you can do all that and you can keep the pace up throughout the swing, it’s going to enable you to really get a very quick initial starting flight, get the ball spinning quite nicely and every stopping somewhere near the pin.
