What is a one plane golf swing? Now throughout the golfing technique there are a number of different things which actually move on planes. It could be the way your shoulder plane works, it could be the way your hip plane works; there are number of things which actually rotate and turn.

Now the most obvious and – well the most consistently used definition of a one plane golf swing is the actual path that the clubface takes around the body. And to ensure you have the best plane for your swing, there are a couple of kind of key checkpoints that you can use, and a couple of key drills that you can use as well. Now as we show you to have a correct plane for your body height and your body shape, the first drill you can actually use is to stand or bolt straight, take the club about kind of waist high, this position here, and actually just begin to move it around the body like this. Something less like a little miniature golf swing. Then what you can do is start to push your hips back, tilt forwards until eventually you get into your golfing posture. And if you can keep that same motion going that is pretty much going to be your swing plane when you’re actually hitting shots. Now, if that’s a little bit too lose, if you’re still not quite sure what your swing plane should be, there are a few checkpoints you can use a well. If you get into a nice solid setup because your spine angle is very important, without a good spine angle, without a good posture your swing plane will be compromised straightaway. So get into a solid posture take the club away and the first checkpoint you can use is this one. So the club head should be pretty much in front of the hands and pointing straightaway from your target. As you turn up and break the wrists, if you can get the club shaft and the butt end of the club pointing down towards your target line, that’s the key checkpoint number two. Then rotate the shoulders to the top, and then in a one plane golf swing on the way down, the club will hit all the same positions and then continue up throughout the actual through swing as well. So that’s how you can actually swing and make the checkpoints kind of relevant as you’re taking the shot and you’re taking some practice swings. Now, it can be quite technical to think about and a mistake a lot of people make is that a one plane swing is the be-all and end-all, it’s the ultimate goal. Now there are lots of players out there on tour who actually swing on multiple planes when they’re actually hitting the shot, they can have an upright plane to an inside plane, an inside plane to an upright plane and all sorts of planes going on. So don’t get too bogged down in a search for a one plane swing. It can be key – it can be a lot more consistent playing in that way, but it’s not the only way to actually do it. So if you want a one-plane swing and you want to check your plane, use those drills and use those checkpoints but don’t get too bogged down. It is a little bit out here and there it can make a massive amount of difference. Just find the perfect swing and the correct swing plane for your own game.
