So here we are going to start looking at the causes and cures for a weak golf grip. So we talked about strong is too far to the right, weak is going to be the opposite way too far to the left. Now, for most people, it’s the left hand that gets too weak for a right handed golfer. Very rarely would we actually see too weak a right hand. It’s normally the left hand that’s the problem, and because the left hand goes on the grip first that could often lead to a poor right hand. So basically, you get your left hand sorted, your right hand should follow suit. So a checkpoint for getting the grip correct with the left hand because when it sets on we should be able to see two knuckles on the back of the left hand that leads to possibly two and a half. And there is a V there between the thumb and the forefinger, that thumb and forefinger that it points towards that right shoulder. That would be a good correct left hand position when the face is square. If I have a weak position, generally see only one knuckle or no knuckles. That hand now is going to struggle to rotate through impact. If anything, it’s going to turn back to the right hence opening the club face, losing a lot of shots down the right hand side.

So it’s often a – a slightest problem could be too weak a grip or even someone that just blocks 1 down the right hand side, but generally it doesn’t hit the ball very far, because they’re not releasing the hands through. So if that sounds like it’s in your game, short shots, high shots drifting out to the right hand side, consider whether your left hand is sitting too weak, your right hand might therefore come over too weak as well. These halves now can’t rotate. As we swing the club, the face will drop into an open position and the ball will cut away high to the right hand side. If that sounds like it’s you, check the position of your grip. It should feel stronger. It might feel a little bit awkward to do it, but when you make your swing correctly, both hands will feel like they’re working through the ball with a little bit more oomph, generating straighter and longer golf shots.
