Tony Jacklin is a legendary British golfer who won two major championships including a US Open which was incredibly rare at the time for a European to win that tournament, but also for becoming the most successful European Ryder Cup captain in current history. Now in his golf swing, he was a very aggressive player through impact. Now what that meant is, as he came through impact, his hip action was very, very fast and very, very fluid through the ball and it had one key attribute. As it close from down into impact, the left hip moved towards the target as the upper body stayed pretty much where it was especially the head stayed in the same position. Now what that meant was that the left hip was quite extended towards the target, but the spine angle was still tilted away from the target.

Now that meant he could drive his weight forward very aggressively whilst maintaining a head position which was level with the ball. Now that meant he didn’t get too far hit bad shots. It’s a very, very unique action but one which is very, very powerful and one which you see in many of the top tour professionals today. Getting the hips moving that way whilst keeping the head nice and still and centered over the golf ball. And it drives the weight forward, and allows those powerful, powerful shots. So to get this moving in your swing, just from the top, get the hips moving forwards and try and keep the head back, before allowing yourself to flow up to a full follow through. Not an easy move to make, not an easy move to master, but if you can, it can certainly develop a lot more power within your swing.
