The Correct Way To Hit A 3 Wood Off The Fairway - Senior Golf Tip (Video) - by Dean Butler

Okay. So what’s the correct way of hitting a 3 wood off the fairway? Well first of all, it’s a very hard golf shot. How many people have got confidence in using that 3 wood off the ground, most probably not many. Look at the lie that you’ve got, if the lie is mediocre or poor, put the three wood back in your bag, pull out a five wood, pull out a hybrid. But let’s say that lie is good so the lie is good. Let’s pull that three wood back out the bag now because the ball is now set up higher. And it’s very important that when the ball is set against the club face is set higher up of the face so centre of gravity can actually come in to the base of the ball and get the ball up in the air and get the ball away. So a good lie, club behind the ball, then set up that ball position towards your left heel about three inches inside. Set yourself up if you find that you have a tendency to hit the ground behind the ball, just go slightly lower down the grip because that will encourage you to actually come through and hit into the ball and hit a much cleaner golf strike.

So if you do touch the ground on a regular basis just go slightly lower down the grip. If you hit your shots quite nicely but not well enough let’s go back to where we should be with the hands and let’s concentrate now on the swing. We have got the set up, nothing complicated about the ball position, from here I want you to push the club away of your shoulder your arm and your hand. And I want you to concentrate on taking that club back slow and low, very important that we keep the angle very low, very shallow we don’t want to picking the club up and hitting down the ball. So low and slow as you go back, as you concentrate on the ball, I want you to focus on hitting down into the back of the ball. So it’s not like it’s a divot behind but it’s like a little bruise just after the golf shot. So here is the set up, lets demonstrate with the swing, there is the ball position just about three inches inside your heel, let’s go back slow and low so from here slow and low and this time I have got the golf shot that I want to hit. I’ve just got a little bit of a bruise imagine in a morning due and the ball is and the dew is just been moved after the ball. That’s a little bit of a bruising. That’s you’re ideal way of playing a fairway shot, but remember look at the lie, if the lie is not right don’t play this shot.
