So Yeon Ryu is a Korean golfer who won the 2011 US Open, and she has one of the most dynamic golf swings currently on the ladies tour. Her swing is very technically proficient throughout but through impact, she extends her arms fantastically well, to give her a real punch of power, and to give her that extra little burst of accuracy also when she needs it. She builds on the power during the backswing, with a very, very wide take away, a very, very full shoulder turn, before bumping the hips turning into impact, but it’s really here where the actual extension stands out. Because coming through impact, the arms stretch away from the body, and take the club a long way away from the body as well. The actual amount of flexibility and strength needed to hit this position is quite a lot. So it will take a little bit of physical work to get the club this far away from the body, but it really allows her to power the driver out there, and also remain consistent while she does it. And very, very simply to replicate this position, its swing through and you just push the club as far towards the actual target as you physically can. And if you can get it right, the actual delivery of power into the ball will increase. So give that a go, it might take a little bit of work, a little bit of practice but extend those arms for the maximum amount of power.
