One of the key indicators about whether you have a flat golf swing or a swing that’s too flat, would actually be to look at your shots, your golf shots and particularly the bad shots that you are hitting.

Now there is two main bad shots that you might be hitting that are going to be indicative of the swing that is too flat. The first one is a golf shot where you hit the ball fat, so mid irons where the club comes down and hits the floor before the golf ball, taking it there from may be up to six inches behind the ball. And the reason of that shot is going to be a problem as the ball is not going to go very far or very straight. And the reason why you might be hitting that shot is during the swing the club comes around the body too much, attacks the ball in here. Now it’s going to be too low, it’s coming down to the ground, getting a bit too shallow and hits the ground before it gets to the ball. You can imagine a swing that’s the wrong way or the opposite way, should I say, too far the other way would be steep and down here, this club clearly coming down on the back of the ball a lot steeper than this one coming in a lot flatter. And particularly noticing of that flat swing causes the heavy shots when the ball is in a bad lie, if there is some long grass before the golf ball and your club always hits that long grass and facts the ball out, you might know that you are swinging too flat, too far from the inside. The other bad shots you will be hitting with this too flat a swing are going to be those block shots that go to the right. They might even be quite weak and quite high shots, again the clubs coming far too much from the inside, very shallow, opening the face a little bit and hitting the ball high out to that right hand side, a push or a weak cut to the right hand side. Now you might think, well I am swinging from the inside so that can draw the ball back in and that might be right. But if you get too much from the inside, your hands won’t be able to compensate and get the club face aiming a bit more left. You will have the face open, as you set this high block out to the right-hand side, so we get this thing of the club coming too much in here blocking out this way, high blocks to the right with a weak flight. So the fat shots and the high pushes to the right, are two major issues with swinging the club too flat.
