I’ll be completely honest with you. This is not the easiest clip for me to demonstrate and probably not the easiest clip for you to take the advice from me. I’m 6'3"and this is a clip aimed at golfers who are slightly shorter in stature. Standard size men's golf clubs are generally measured to someone around about 5'10' in height. If you are lower than that, 5'8” and below, you probably need to look at making alterations to the way you swing the club and making alterations to the clubs themselves so if you're less than 5'10”, 5'8” or below, you need to look at getting your golf clubs fitted for you then also making alterations in your swing to try and maximize distance. Generally the sort of adage is that that the taller you are, the longer your arm, the bigger the leverage, the further that you're going to hit the golf ball. But actually some history shows us some fairly short guys actually get the ball out there quite a long way. The welsh golfer Ian Woosnam is one of the prime example, about 5'6” in height and certainly hits the golf ball plenty far enough.

As a shorter golfer, you generally have a flatter and more rounded golf swing and that's no bad thing because that can actually tend to lead into a draw shot which is actually a great way of hitting extra distance so generally speaking, if you are a shorter golfer and you swing it flat, you should try and work on drawing the golf ball to get the extra distance. The other consideration there would be to make an extra wide stance because we need to use good left arm leverage for a right-handed golfer and quite good lateral movements in the body. It's not going to be a straight or straight down steep golf swing. It's going to have to be a little bit more lateral to get the good leverage. But if you can get the golf club nice and flat around your body, good leverage with that left arm, turn your ball flight for a right-to-left shape with a draw and get some custom-fitted golf clubs. Even shorter guys can get maximum distance out on the shot. If you look at Thomas Golf range of golf clubs, they'll give you an exact guide of how to measure yourself perfectly for the brilliant set of custom-fit golf clubs.
