Let's now look at the positives of an upright golf swing. Now if you're looking to say play a faint shot, an upright golf swing would benefit you in a couple of different ways. Because one upright golf swing because it lifts the plane out and up over what you class as a normal plane or a good plane, and then allows you to return the club more on an outer wind swing path. So what I mean by that is if you're set up to a target and your normal plane is to move the club around the body, so it moves a little bit in the side and then it's angled around the actual spine angle. If you're going to try and do an upright plane that back swing will take it up and out, it will move into a more upright position and get into a very high position here.

Now from there it's a lot easier to move the club from outside the target line to inside the target line holding that club face open and causing that little bit of a fade. It's also a good swing to use if you're trying to hit down on the ball more. So let's say you're stuck in very, very deep rough, the ball has settled to the bottom of the root and you need to try and get it up and out of that. If you use a shallow wing and a swallow swing kind of angle of attacking is more of a swing that it sweeps along the ground before it hits the ball is going to find it very, very difficult to find its way through that rough. If you're using an upright swing plane, what it kind of turns the down swing into is a much steeper angle of attack allowing you to hit that ball first and then that tough and really striking down and through. Also with an upright swing plane it is possible that getting to an upright position and then start to drop the club a little bit more onto what you would call the consistent plane or a more natural plane. But there are benefits to having an upright plane. There is absolutely no doubt it. So you can try it with a fade, you can try and get it open out of a bad lie with an upright plane and an upright swing but there are also some negatives to it as well which we will go into further down the line.
