Padraig Harrington Pro Golfer, Swing Sequence (Video) - by Pete Styles

Major championships in golf are always going to be difficult to come by. Don't forget we only have four major championships every year and if you consider that in recent times Tiger has amassed 14 of those major championships you kind of think well there's not that many for the other guys to go for but I think Padraig Harrington was probably one of the guys that made the most of Tiger's absence. 2007/2008 Tiger wasn't playing a great deal of golf and certainly wasn't contending for the major championships and Harrington nicked in there and he caught three major championships over a two year period. He won two opens Birkdale, one at Carnoustie and a playoff against Garcia and picked up PGA Championship in the middle as well.

And Harrington then made a bold claim, he claimed he was going to win more and he changed his golf swing. Now a bit may think as well if it isn't broken why did you try and fix it you know you are playing the best golf you like, you are playing some amazing stuff and you are hitting the ball really nicely and surely three majors is good enough. But you know he wanted more, he pushed on for a little bit more and he went back with Bob Torrance and he made some fairly big changes to his golf swing hours and hours on the practice ground tinker and change and tweak and trying to improve on things.

I mean he hasn't yet reached the highs of those three major championships but he's still a regular on the PGA tour, a regular winner on the European tour and also still worth in the Ryder Cup team. So it's yet to be seen whether that was the right decision by Harrington. He might go on and win more major championships yet to be seen whether it is the right decision. Only a few other players Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods or maybe two others that come to mind have sort of won major championships, decided they want to push on and actually carried on winning some more and both of those players, both came under some criticism during that period of changing their swings because obviously changing your golf swing is not immediate success.

And I think that's one the things that you could learn from those players from Faldo, from Woods and hopefully from Harrington. Is that when you are playing well if you decide you want to push on and get better when you make little changes to your golf swing just be careful it doesn't send you on a backwards path, you've got to be patient with these things, you got to give it time to settle, and then time to practice, and time to change and hopefully we'll see Padraig Harrington win more major championships, contend for more big tournaments and keep playing in the Ryder Cup in the future with his new golf swing.
