When you have gone through a period of hitting the heel of the golf club, many players have me included. It is very difficult to overcome the mental scaring that leaves, because it is such a horrible feeling when you hit it out the shank because it flies away so violently off to the right hand side, it is not easy to overcome. However there are ways in which you can do it. The easiest way is to get pre-shot routine which you follow every single time.

You follow every single time you go through the same processes and you don’t allow your emotions to become conflicted with the shots that you are about to hit. It sounds easy, it does sound easy, but that is a very good way to start to overcome the fear of actually hitting the shot. Now the next one and this is it sounds so obvious, but it is something many people do not do. If you start to hit the heel of the golf club a lot of people will just switch off from practice, switch off from play. They don’t want to hit that shot anymore. However the only way to really overcome it and the only way to be comfortable with it is to hit golf shots is to get comfortable with hitting the ball again. Using this drill that we just spoke about a moment ago the bottle drill and identifying what your issues are, your next step is to get back to practicing, hitting shots, finding the centre of the golf club, remember hitting out the heel is so close to hitting out the centre of the club. You will not be far away, go for it. Try and practice as much as you can, try not to worry about it too much although it is easy said than done, identify the problem, work on it, go smash it and get out there and enjoy the golf once more.
