If you’ve now really worked hard on making sure you understand the principles of the railroad tracks and you know why and how good alignment is important, the next step is now to make sure that the body is really focused on aligning to the right point as well. So we’re going to use the two alignment canes again. The first one going down here as our ball to target line, so that’s aiming where we’d want the golf ball to be ultimately finishing. So then the job of my body alignment is now to be parallel to that line. So as I take my stance and my set up, I get myself comfortable here and then I’m just going to reach forward and use my other alignment cane but you can use your golf club for this as well. What I’d like to check is that now my knees are pointing parallel with that cane. So we don’t have them pointing this way or this way. I can then make another check with my hips so the club’s placed across the front of my hips. I’m still pointing in the same direction. And one last checkpoint across my shoulders so my normal set up and the cane points down the line of my shoulders as well. Now, it might be useful if you could have a friend just to stand pretty much where the camera is really, just to help identify that because you might find it quite awkward to notice if your alignment isn’t good and the club isn’t on line or actually you might start twisting to manipulate your body to try and make it pointed in the right direction. So we need to make sure of your normal and your natural stance position and your friend could even hold the cane for you and walk in from here and position the cane in that area and just make sure it’s always parallel to this line.

And I think if you can check those three or four key components, you could check the front of your toes, you could check the front of your knees, the front of your hips and the front of your shoulders. And what we want to see is every part of your body is nicely stacked and pointing towards your ball to target line if you're intending to hit a straight shot. And we don’t have any particular twists in any part of the body particularly looking for an opening or closing angle in any one part of your body. So use those two alignment canes working on the railroad track principle to make sure you’ve got better body alignment.
