If you are looking to improve the consistency within your game, and you're looking to improve the overall rhythm within your game as well, having a concept and having a feel of where the club head is throughout the golf swing is very, very important.

It’s certainly something I see a lot as a teaching professional when people come into for a lesson, is people saying that they don’t have a sense of where the club is throughout the golf swing. And it’s an important part of the golfing technique to understand. If you have a concept of where that club head is throughout the swing, the chances are, you will have a better option when you are coming into impact to control the ball fly as well. So what do you want to be feeling generally throughout the golf swing? You want to be having a grip pressure certainly, which is nice and soft. Just have a little bit of an experiment, have a little bit of a drill when you’re at the driving range, and having two shots. First of all, gripping on to the club as tight as you possibly can. What you will generally find is the people who grip on to the club very, very tightly, will actually have less of a sensation of what’s happening with the club head throughout the whole technique. All the pressure is being applied at the grip end of the club, so the brain is focusing on that part of the grip, and saying, “Okay, this is what’s important. And it’s forgetting what’s happening up here. Also a super tight grip pressure, can affect rhythm and other aspects of the technique as well. So on the first shot, grip onto that club as tight as you possibly can. And on the second shot, just grip in nice and loosely. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the tightest, one being the lightest, try and grip it about a two or a three, and then hit the shot. All of a sudden you will get much more of a concept of the weight of the club head. Because that’s what people talk about, when they’re saying, you know, how do you feel the club head throughout the golf swing? You are feeling the weight, you are feeling the imbalance, and how the club is weighted more towards the head-end of the club. You should feel that weight throughout the golf swing. And having a very relaxed grip pressure will allow you to do that. So using that nice relaxed grip pressure, we're going to talk about, how you can start to feel that club head better throughout the backswing, throughout the down swing, and also throughout the short game. So hopefully to give you a little bit of a better understanding of where that club head is while you're swinging.
