Putting Guide, The All-Time Top 5 Thoughts (Video) - by Pete Styles

Here is five simple checkpoints that can MOT your putting game, to make you hole more putts out in the golf course. The first thing I would like to see you do when you get to the putting green, is just make you are relaxed. Tension is a bit of a killer, when you are putting and tension would normally manifest itself in grip pressure. So when you are standing over the putt, just make sure you have got nice relaxed hands that will help the club move nicely and smoothly, anything you feel grip pressures seeping into your game, you know you are going to struggle with your putting. The next thing I would like you to concentrate and just make you are getting good strikes on the back of the ball. We often see golfers going around the course focusing on good ball striking, but they very rarely focus on good putt striking. Your putt has a sweet spot, just the same as all your other clubs, just make sure that the line on your putt is exactly level with the back of the ball.

And then focus on keeping that line exactly there, for a good strike, anything that hits the toe or the heel is going to cause a few problems with your putting strike. And another thing, I think you should check on the third thing is make sure that you are accelerating with your putting stroke. Anytime the club is slowing down as it comes into the ball, we are going to have some problems with that. So we want to make sure that the club is back in through and accelerating nicely, as it comes into the ball. Anytime the club is long, slowing down, we are going to struggle. The fourth thing to MOT, your putting game is making sure your head stays really still during the putting stroke. If we start to see the head and the classic one is either watching putts on the way back or worse, looking for the hole on the way through, as the head starts to move like that, that’s going to cause the upper body to sway, causing the putter to move.

So head nice and steady back and through, easiest way to check your head is put the sunshine behind you, look at the ground, see your head staying still as you make your stroke and then no peaking as you look towards the hole. And one last thing, the fifth thing, that the putting MOT is making sure your shoulders are rocking correctly, that means your hands and your legs aren’t overly involved. So if we have a putting stroke that’s all hands, shoulders aren’t working, if we have a putting stroke, that’s all legs, shoulders aren’t working, if we have a putting where the shoulders are doing their thing, everything else, knees and hands can stay nice and still and that’s just the shoulders rocking backwards that will keep the club nicely online, easier to control the pace of your putt and the line of your putt, if your shoulders are involved. So this video contains five really important parts of a quick MOT of your putting game. Do that and watch your scores improve.
