    While playing at Texas A&M University, Maggert was an All American. After graduating, he turned pro in 1986. He toiled on the mini tours for a number of years before finding his feet.  He played a single season playing on the Nationwide Tour in 1990. On his way to topping the money list, he won twice, had three runner-up finishes and one third place. After topping the money list, Maggert won a PGA Tour card for the 1991 season. Maggert kept his card for the rest of his career until he began playing on the Champions Tour.

    1993 was a breakout season. Maggert captured his first PGA Tour win in 1993 at Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Classic by three shots after shooting four rounds in the 60s. He also had two runner up finishes as well as a 3rd on his way to finishing the season 11th on the money list. From 1993 until 2000, Maggert had thirteen runner-up finishes. He had three second places in 1996 including a play-off loss to Mark Brooks at the Shell Houston Open. He finished the season 23rd on the money list.

    It was 1999 when Maggert won his second Tour event. It was the biggest win of his career, coming at the WGC-Andersen Consulting Match Play Championship. He beat Andrew Magee after 38 holes. This was one of six top10s that season and he finished a career high 12th on the money list. Maggert’s third and most recent Tour win came in 2006. Maggert closed with a 65 to beat Tom Pernice Jr. by three strokes at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Maggert played in three consecutive Ryder Cups, 1995, 1997 and 1999. He started playing on the Champions Tour in 2014. He has won once in the 2014 season and once in the 2015 season.
