Nobilo was born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1960. He has something of an exotic background, being the grandson of Italian pirate. Nobilo was born with one leg shorter than the other. This has caused him some problems throughout his life and golfing career, mostly involving back issues. Nobilo played golf at school, at St Peter's College in Auckland. He also played rugby league whilst still at school.

Even as an amateur, Nobilo experienced some success, when he won the New Zealand Amateur Championships in 1978. He was only eighteen when he achieved this win. The following year, Nobilo turned professional. He won for the first time, as a professional, at the New South Wales PGA Championships in 1982.

In 1985 Nobilo joined the European Tour on a full-time basis. He achieved his first win on the European Tour, three years later, at the PLM Open in 1988.

After several more wins on the European Tour, Nobilo went on to join the PGA Tour, in late 1996. In his first season on the PGA Tour he won, at the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic.  In 1998 Nobilo suffered a freak injury when he was hit above the eye, by a stay tee shot. This injury adversely affected his play.
Since retiring from the course, Nobilo has undertaken television work. He has worked for both the Golf Channel and NBC, providing coverage of golf events.

Away from golf, Nobilo is married to Selena, and has one daughter, Bianca, from a previous relationship. He is interested in wine, and acts as an ambassador for the New Zealand winery The House of Nobilo, which was founded by a relative.

As of the end of 2014, Nobilo had won one event on the PGA Tour, amassing total prize money of $2,875,836.
