    Although he was born in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, Forsman moved to Mountain View, California with his family as a child, and it was here that he learned to play golf, at Los Altos Golf and Country Club where he used to caddy for the members. While he was at Awalt High School Forsman played golf and basketball. After high school, Forsman attended Arizona State University, where he continued to play golf.

    Following his university career, Forsman turned professional in 1982. He first began playing on the PGA Tour in 1983. Over the next twenty years Forsman only finished outside of the Top 125 on one occasion. His best season on the Tour came in 1992 when he finished in 10th place on the end of season money list. In 2004, Forsman lost his PGA Tour card but he continued to have a reasonable playing career, joining the Champions Tour in 2008.

    Forsman began his Champions Tour career well, achieving his first win in his rookie season, at the AT&T Champions Classic. The following year he achieved his second win at the Regions Charity Classic, with the third one following, at the 2012 Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.

    Away from the course, Forsman is a family man. He is married to Trudy, and they have two sons, Richard and Thomas. During the 1995 season Forsman took a break of six weeks to coach his son’s Little League team.

    As of the end of 2014, Forsman had achieved five wins on the PGA Tour, amassing $8,687,983 in total prize money.
