Born in Durban, South Africa in 1975, Clark was coached to play golf by his father, from the age of three. After high school, Clark travelled to the US to attend college at North Carolina State University. During his time at college, Clark won the U.S. Amateur Public Links in 1997 which meant that he qualified for the Masters Tournament the following year.

After turning professional in 1998, Clark went on to play on what was then known as the Nike Tour. After being successful in winning two tournaments in 2000, he earned his card to play on the PGA Tour the following year. Unfortunately his first season on the Tour was seriously curtailed by a wrist injury, but on his return in 2002 he had a medical exemption which meant that he was able to play in enough events to gain a full exemption for 2003 season.

It was a further seven years before Clark secured his first victory on the PGA Tour, at the Players Championship in 2010. Clark has also achieved three wins on the European Tour and finished in second place at the Masters, in 2006. In 2014, Clark achieved his second victory on the PGA Tour, at the RBC Canadian Open.

Aside from his solo performances, Clark has also played on the International Team for the Presidents Cup, as well as participating at the Gary Player charity event in South Africa which takes place every year, and which helps to raise funds for children in need.

As of the end of 2014, Clark had achieved two wins on the PGA Tour, amassing total prize money of $22,803,820.
