A natural left-hander, Cristie Kerr learned to play golf right handed as an eight year old in Miami, Florida. Kerr capped off an impressive amateur career by earning the low amateur award at the 1995 U.S. Women’s Open. After high school, Kerr turned professional as just an 18-year old playing on the Futures Tour. Later that year, she finished high enough at the 1996 LPGA Tour qualifying tournament to earn her card for the 1997 season.

Cristie’s first years on tour were a grind. She did not break into the top 50 on the LPGA money list until her third season. She didn’t break into the winners circle until 2002 – her sixth season on tour. Along the way she showed signs of future greatness – she tied for second at the 2000 U.S. Women’s Open.

That first win in 2000 marked a turning point in Kerr’s fortunes. Less than two years later she was one of the Tour’s best players. Kerr won three times on the LPGA Tour in 2004, twice in 2005 and three times in 2006. She was runner up at the 2006 Women’s British Open.

In 2006, Kerr defeated Lorena Ochoa and Angela Park at Pine Needles Golf Club in North Carolina to capture the U.S. Women’s Open. It was Kerr’s first Major title. Kerr added her second Major championship at the 2010 LPGA Championship were she lapped the field, winning the title by twelve strokes over runner up Song-Hee Kim. Through the end of 2014, Kerr has recorded 18 top five finishes at the Major Championships.
