lob wedge

Clubs designed for hitting very high shots from near the green. Lob wedges feature the highest lofts of any clubs, usually between 58-64°, with very little bounce (protrusion) on the club’s sole.

Also called an L wedge, the lob wedge is often used for very short pitch shots that must stop quickly after landing. The club is equally helpful from fairway grass or rough, while many golfers favor the lob wedge for short bunker shots that must carry a tall lip.

Lob wedges are used for full shots as well; most golfers hit a lob wedge around 60-70 yards at maximum. Thomas Golf (www.thomasgolf.com) offers lob wedges with each of its custom-fitted iron sets.
