Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 Drivers Review

The Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 falls into the category of game improvement drivers and retails for $449. The key technology incorporated into its built is the Gravity Core rod which is designed to raise/lower the club’s center of gravity, thus modifying spin and launch. Basically, the new Big Bertha Alpha 815 is the next generation of the original Alpha driver launched back in 2014 and it differs by providing his owner with more spin and forgiveness. Callaway managed to improve the new Big Bertha Alpha 815 by creating a shallower face and using a Fujikura Speeder 565 shaft, which adds a lot to the accuracy levels of the driver. There’s also a newly developed face design, namely the RMOTO, which is aimed at increasing ball speeds especially when it comes to off center hits, adding to the smash factor. There are cleverly designed ribs on the club’s face, allowing the edge to flex more enthusiastically during your swing, similar to the channels that are found in other drivers. This design keeps the head of the Big Bertha Alpha 815 in the same 460 cc range, yet the shallower head is pushed a bit further front to back, while keeping it compact at address.

The RMOTO technology, i.e. the aforementioned ribs, are allowing for three grams of weight that should have been found in the sole to be relocated in other parts (to the edges) thus increasing the moment of inertia, adding to the driver’s forgiveness.  Also, in order to move the CG (center of gravity) vertically, the Big Bertha Alpha 815 comes with a Gravity Core weight. The crown of the driver features Callaway’s light Forged Composite technology, making for a stylish looking head which feels and sounds awesome, thanks to the graphite and titanium combo. The hosel is fully adjustable and there are two sole weights that can be moved/swapped for further optimizing the location of the center of gravity, using Callaway’s Optifit thingy. All these features make for a premium piece of golf gear in the Big Bertha Alpha 815, fully customizable to fit/fine tune your every need on the golf course; also, being more forgiving than the previous version, it will suit amateur golfers like a glove.
