Mountain Ridge Country Club Course Review

The Mountain Ridge Country Club was built in 1929 and it wears the signature of the famous architect Donald Ross. Keep in mind that what youre dealing with here is a private resort, available for its members and their guests only. The Mountain Ridge Country Clubs course is an 18 hole regulation length golf course, featuring 6803 yards of golf from its longest tees for a 71 par, a 129 slope rating and a course rating of 73.0 on bent grass. The golf course sits on a beautiful piece of real estate in West Caldwell, New Jersey and its inception is due to frustrated Jewish golf players, which were unable (a century ago, nota bene) to join the private country clubs in the area, hence they made an offer to Donald Ross to design the Mountain Ridge Country Clubs course, he accepted and the rest is history.

To describe it in a few words, this golf course is a real surprise if youre playing it for the first time, oozing its Donald Ross signature design, class and old world character, being a true classic and a hidden gem in the purest sense of the word. The greens are gigantic, while the lands natural contours were wonderfully incorporated into the courses holes. The greenside bunkers are unique, making playing here relatively complicated if youre not able to hit your tee shot right down the middle of the fairway. The rough is classically unforgiving, meaning that youll require pin point accuracy if hoping for a good score. Like any true classic, the Mountain Ridge will provide both tour pros and amateurs with a challenging and unforgettable experience, being one of New Jerseys highlights.
