    Prairie Dunes Country Club Review

The Prairie Dunes Country Club can be described in a few words as one of the worlds most scenic golf courses, together with being an American original. It doesnt get much better than that, dont you think? The design and the layout of the Prairie Dunes pays homage to some of the best resorts in the British Isles, well, sort of, making for a wonderful links-styled golf course, boasting its rolling hills which are similar to the seaside golf-courses in Scotland, the country that spawned the game. Basically, the Prairie Dunes is a true gem making for one of Kansass hidden treasures. The idea of Prairie Dunes was born way back in 1935 when the Carey family hired Perry Maxwell, an architectural genius if there ever was one to design a true masterpiece. Which of course, he did. Perry was quoted saying about the 480 acres piece of real estate upon which the Prairie Dunes was built that there are 118 holes here, all I have to do is to eliminate 100, end quote.

Brilliantly said and done, as the Prairie Dunes opened with 9 holes in 1937 and later in 1957, Perrys son Press opened the 2nd 9 holes, contributing to this wonderful game for the generations to come. Over its long and fortuitous history, the Prairie Dunes hosted numerous major events, like the US Senior Open in 2006, Mens NCAA Golf Championship in 2014 or the US Womens Open in 2002, while it was consistently ranked high by prestigious golf magazines, i.e. number 25 in 2013-2014 Golfs Digests America 100 Greatest Courses, number 13th in 2014s edition of Golf Weeks Best Classic Courses or number 26th in the 2013 edition of Golf Magazines Top 100 Courses in the World, together with being ranked 1st in its home state, Kansas. Located in the middle of Kansas, this perennial top-25 design utilizes masterfully the natural sand dunes as perfect locations for providing dramatic tees and green sites and the best way to enjoy it is to take a stroll on Prairie Duness walkable routing and enjoy the show.
