    Stanwich Club Golf Course Review

The Stanwich Club is a private resort located just five miles from Greenwich, Connecticut, a place filled with world-class courses in which this baby really shines, making for an epic test with regard to the great game of golf. The Stanwich Club's course features 7445 yards of golf from its longest tees and it was designed by a father and son team of architects, William and Dean Gordon respectively, being opened for players way back in 1964. The golf course can be described as relatively flat, as it's routed across reclaimed swamp land and former farmland. Playing the Stanwich Club you'll enjoy lots of water hazards which come into play on half of the holes, majestic trees which are lining the fairways and green slopes, from front to the back which basically dare you to execute bold approach shots. The putting surfaces are tricky though, being some of the slickest I've ever played, and they're also tightly bunkered. But to be honest, these great putting surfaces are the main attraction for tour professionals, which are always paying a visit to Stanwich Club when they're in the area.

The Stanwich Club is a private facility, available for its members and their guests only, so keep that in mind before showing up with your golf paraphernalia, plan ahead. As per accolades, the Stanwich was the host for US Mid Amateur Championship in 2002 and if that doesn't sound like much, well, thing is this course is a hidden gem, being one of the "under the radar" courses in the US , despite the fact that there's no shortage of great holes here, with the best of the bunch being the par 3 13th which plays initially over a small creek and then a pond, with a L shaped/raised green and featuring a wickedly undulating terrain and tough bunkers. The conditioning and the staff are superb, world class and the whole nine yards and the golf course makes for the perfect combo between conditioning, shot values and challenge.
